Blessed Mothers.

“Her children arise and call her blessed…” Proverbs 31:28

Today I'm thinking about my son's that is coming up. I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a mother all day long. Parenting has never been easy, and I am inclined to say that in our age of information and technology that parenting has never been harder. There are so many obstacles our children must overcome to make it to full and responsible adulthood; obstacles that we did not even consider to be a possibility. But thank God for mothers!

Mothers everywhere have had to step up, as in every other generation, to the challenge of parenting in an exciting, but often formidable age; an age in which our children are confronted with burgeoning technology and even risks of Covid-19. Our task as mothers is to “let go” and “protect” all at the same time.

We must let go just enough so they can become independent, loving, and responsible adults, and we must also protect them for the very same reasons. Now how hard is that?!

In the midst of all of these decisions we must make; some hard and some not so hard; some right and ultimately some wrong, it is the grace and love we bring to each of these interactions with our children that will matter in the end. If we accompany each scrimmage and skirmish we have with our children with a big “I love you” attached, then each conversation will be filled with just the right hint of beauty and love. Our children will learn to respect our wisdom when conveyed in grace and love and in turn, pass that wisdom, grace and love on to others!

I thank God for all mothers who do their level best to raise children in love.
